How to Use UPI in Keypad Mobile

Using UPI (Unified Payments Interface) on a keypad mobile can be a bit different from using it on smartphones. Since keypad mobiles typically don’t support apps like Google Pay, PhonePe , or Paytm, UPI transactions on these devices are usually facilitated through a service called USSD banking (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data), specifically the *USSD code* `*99#`, which works on almost all phones, including feature/keypad phones.

Here’s how to use UPI on a keypad mobile through the `*99#` service:

Steps to Use UPI on a Keypad Mobile

1. Dial `*99#` from your mobile phone.
– This code works across all major telecom providers in India.

2. Choose Your Preferred Language (if prompted).
– After dialing `*99#`, you’ll be asked to select your language. Reply with the number corresponding to your language.

3. Select Your Bank:
– After choosing the language, you may need to select your bank from a list. Type the number corresponding to your bank and press “Send.”

4. Main Menu Options:
You’ll see a menu with various options, such as:
– Send Money
– Request Money
– Check Balance
– My Profile
– Pending Requests
– Transactions
– UPI PIN

5. Send Money via UPI:
– To send money, select the option for “Send Money.”
– Enter the UPI ID, mobile number, or bank account details of the person to whom you want to send money.
– Enter the amount you wish to transfer.
– Confirm the transaction by entering your UPI PIN.

6. Set or Reset UPI PIN  (if you haven’t already):
– If you’re using UPI for the first time, you might need to set a UPI PIN. This can be done by selecting the option “UPI PIN” from the main menu and following the prompts.

7. Check Balanc:
– You can also check your account balance by selecting the “Check Balance” option in the menu. You’ll be prompted to enter your UPI PIN for security purposes.

8. Complete the Transaction:
– After confirming the transaction with your UPI PIN, you will receive a confirmation message, and the money will be transferred.

 Important Notes:

  1. Bank Account Linked to UPI: You must have your bank account linked to UPI through the same mobile number.
  2. Charges: While most telecom operators offer `*99#` services for free or at a nominal charge (e.g., ₹0.50 per transaction), it’s good to check with your telecom provider.
  3. Daily Transaction Limit : There’s usually a daily transaction limit (e.g., ₹5,000) for transactions via the `*99#` service.

This system allows people without smartphones or internet access to use UPI services for banking and payments.
